I have focused on photographing everyday life; the beautiful, unexpected, and uncanny moments in the streets, showcasing them to people who generally do not see them. When photographing everyday life in the streets, there is a lot of luck in finding the magical moment, such as facial expressions, reflections, uncanny moments, shapes, animals, colour, and the architecture surrounding the people in the photographs. I have included these pointers and combined these in a sequence to tell a narrative through every image in a handmade zine and made three black and white darkroom prints for my university exhibition.
A Flâneur walks around cities with no particular aim, taking in the surroundings, and ending up somewhere interesting. Flâneurs do not have an endpoint and occasionally may encounter with something in the street. However, a photographer will photograph the encounters, highlighting the unexpected moment in ordinary life. I aimed to be a Flâneur, photographing unseen moments.
I have been heavily influenced by several photographers, including Saul Leiter, Lee Friedlander and Matt Stuart.
Images of my work in the Collective Perspective photography exhibition at Bonnington on 30/05/23 were photographed by Ian Reynolds.
